The impact of COVID-19 on trauma patients and orthopedic trauma operations at a single focused training center for trauma in Korea

<sec><title>Purpose</title><p> The objective of this study was to determine the effects coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on volume trauma patients, number orthopedic operations, and severity injuries. We also investigated correlations between social distancing these variables.</p></sec><sec><title>Methods</title><p> This a retrospective review patient cases at single focused training center for in Korea from January 2017 April 2021. COVID-19 group included patients treated 1 30 2020 2021, control during same months 2019. according level evaluated among August 2, November 23, 2020.</p></sec><sec><title>Results</title><p> 3,032 who presented emergency department with traumatic injuries average 646.7 546.0 groups, respectively. percentage injured traffic accidents (TAs) decreased 25.0% 18.2% (<italic>p</italic><0.0001). proportions in-car TAs pedestrian 6.7% 10.8% 3.5% 6.0%, respectively (<italic>p</italic>=0.0002 <italic>p</italic><0.0001). bicycle increased 2.4% 4.0% (<italic>p</italic>=0.0128). proportion an Injury Severity Score above 15 mortality rate did not change significantly. As increased, decreased. operations depended level.</p></sec><sec><title>Conclusions</title><p> presenting period. as distance increased.</p></sec>
